Basketball has taken over the festive season in Melbourne and fans have turned out in their masses to Melbourne Arena to experience Melbourne United’s game day spectacle.
In the space of just four days, 20,600 fans attended two United games at Melbourne Arena – a sign of just how much Melburnians love their basketball. Back-to-back sell-outs in four days is a first for United, as is the fact that there has now been five sell-outs so far this season.
There’s been a lot of talk lately about basketball flourishing in Australia – and particularly Melbourne – and the proof is clearly in the pudding.
The open air Boxing Day game has become synonymous with Melbourne United and now is now a must-see event on Melbourne’s hectic summer sporting calendar. The electric atmosphere inside Melbourne Arena with the sun shining down in the first half, before the stars of the night sky take over after the main break is something to behold.
While Boxing Day was a whole lot of fun for the sold-out crowd, the excitement didn’t stop there as three days later the Melbourne sports-loving returned to Melbourne Arena for a clash between United and the Bullets.
Once again, the sold-out crowd enjoyed another summer evening at the basketball. Whether you’re court-side with friends, family, colleagues or entertaining clients, the buzz and energy of a sold-out crowd at Melbourne Arena ensures an engaging and entertaining night for everyone.
United now boasts a range of marquee games on the calendar that intertwine with truly iconic Melbourne events; the Melbourne Cup Day Eve game, the Boxing Day open air game, and the Australian Open Game.
Whilst the squad now hits the road for most of January, they return home on 29 January 2020 for the Australian Open Game.
